Whether you are a complete ‘kook’ – eager to experience that great feeling of surfing for the first time, or a capable surfer who wants to take it to the next level; the Extreme Algarve surf school team can teach you and will help you improve your surf skills!
The south west Algarve is one of the only places in the world where you can surf all year round. With dozens of beaches scattered on the west and south coast, there is always a surf spot to be found. So if you want guaranteed surf, this is the place to be.

Extreme Algarve Surf Lessons
What to expect
We meet at AWS camp house, in the mornings, our surf school in central Lagos, and head to the best surf beach for that day, either on the south or west coast of the Algarve. Tuition will be approximately 2 hours which will include a warm up, safety briefing and some surf theory. We take a break to restore your energy and when you’ve had enough salt water up your nose and your arms start to feel like spaghetti, we take you back home again.
The Extreme Algarve surf school instructors are all ASI (Academy of Surf Instructors), FPS (Portuguese Surf Federation) or similarly qualified and have surfed all over the world. We teach in groups of max 8 students per instructor. Beginner and intermediate surfers are taught on soft-top boards.
Never surfed before? No worries, you are not alone! After some theory on the beach, you’ll hit the white water to practice the basics of catching and riding waves. Once you get confident you can advance to smaller ‘green waves and perhaps even paddle out to the back with your instructor.
In the overview below we show you the average progression surf students make during group lessons. Of course, every person is different and you might progress at a faster or slower pace.
Included
At Extreme Algarve surf school we always recommend to book as many surf lessons as possible during your stay, but don't forget that your body needs a rest as well! Therefore you should always take some rest after 2 or 3 days of surfing. As lessons start early and return to Lagos late afternoon, surfing on the arrival and departure day of your trip is usually not possible.
